Approximately 25,000 residences in Queensland's southeast woke up lacking electricity on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms impacted the area, producing powerful gusts hitting over 100 km/h.

Large Hailstones and Widespread Impact

Residents witnessed large ice chunks measuring up to 7 centimeters in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that various areas across the state had been impacted by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair electricity service throughout the damaged zones, with approximately seventy teams deployed to address the widespread outages.

Southern State's Weather Woes

At one point on yesterday, over 28k energy customers in the state were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along much of Queensland's east this next several days as a atmospheric system continued to attract humidity against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing storm activity predicted across multiple regions of both states.

Safety Concern

Public health experts warned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, specifically given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This warning comes after historical occurrences where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the state.
